Frederick Friendship Park & Municipal Campus

The Township maintains a 25 acre municipal park that surrounds the township building located at 3205 Big Road. Some current features of the campus are: Newly Updated and Expanded Frederick Friendship Park Playground, shade trees, parking lot, a pavilion with grills, picnic tables and a walking/running trail with stationary exercise equipment along the path’s course. The park is bordered by a split rail fence that runs along the front and side property line and was funded partially by local businesses and completed as part of a local Eagle Scout project.

Upper Frederick Township Community Day

The township’s Municipal Park is also home to the township’s biggest annual event which is held the last Saturday every September, the Upper Frederick Township Community Day. Heading into its 19th year in September of 2024, Community Day is hosted by the township and partially funded by participating businesses to provide its residents and friends the opportunity to find out about many non-profit organizations and groups available to the community, such as these past event members:

  • The Goschenhoppen Historical Society
  • Mid-Atlantic MedEvac helicopter
  • Montgomery County Public Library Bookmobile
  • Plymouth Community Ambulance
  • Several Montgomery County 4-H Clubs
  • UFT Fire Department
Frederick Friendship Playground Sign

There’s also a township-sponsored shredding truck for township residents to shred their confidential documents free of charge.

Affordable Family Fun

Community Day also offers families and friends with a day of affordable fun and entertainment, including pony rides, a giant hamster ball, laser tag, rock wall and bungee trampoline, inflatable obstacle course, a petting zoo, free kid’s crafts, face painting, live music, a used book sale and more! To top off the event, we offer a variety of great food, our ever-popular chili cook-off and free door prizes donated by generous local businesses. We hope you can join us this year, so bring some chili to enter in the contest and make this an annual event for you and your family.

School House Project

In May of 2022 the Board of Supervisors passed resolution 2022-11 to purchase the single family home located at 3211 Big Road for the sum of $177,293.13. This single family home was once the only area school house before being sold to a private party and sits in the heart of the municipal campus that is located at 3205 Big Road. As part of the purchase an INSPECTION of the property was performed as well as a visual STRUCTURAL INSPECTION.

Following the purchase of the property a State Local Share Grant application was submitted. The grant consisted of a NARRATIVE and BUDGET that resulted in a grant award of $100,000 from the state to restore the school house. The budget prepared was to restore the house to functioning conditions as a home.

In June of 2023 The Board of Supervisors retained the services of Luce Architects to create a design for a new municipal building that would have the character of the original school house while also being a new public meeting space. The DESIGN was completed in the fall of 2023 and was displayed in the current meeting room. No Budget was associated with the design and would need to be sourced to continue the project.

In 2024 the Board of Supervisors asked for feedback on the project to garner whether this was a resource worth developing or if other resources would be worth developing. One suggestion was sports courts with a permanent bathroom which the Township lacks in general and could be used more widely by residents.
